|Dr. Marvin Wollen is JCPRD Board Chair for 2005|
Continuing to provide park and recreation opportunities to the citizens of Johnson County is the goal of the goal of the 2005 chair of the Johnson County Park and Recreation District Board
Dr. Marvin "Doc" Wollen of Olathe was elected by his fellow Board members during their Dec. 15 regular meeting to serve as chair for the coming year.
Wollen has been a member of the District Board since 1990 and previously served as chair in 1999. He has also previously served as secretary, treasurer, and vice chair. He has served on the Board's Parks and Golf Courses; Recreation; Park Safety and Interpretation; and Administrative Services committees, as well as on the Theatre in the Park Advisory Committee and as liaison to the Olathe 50 Plus Center. He is a past trustee of both the National Recreation and Park Association and the Kansas Recreation and Park Association and member of the NRPA's Citizen Member Board.
Wollen retired in mid-2004 after more than 48 years of practicing Optometry in Olathe. He holds a degree from the Southern College of Optometry, Memphis and has lived in Olathe for more than 50 years.
Among his many involvements in the Olathe community, he is a member of the Rotary Club and an active member of Grace United Methodist Church. He has also served on the Olathe Park Board. In addition, he is a member of the Johnson County Community College Foundation Board and the Mid-America Regional Council's Metro Green Civic Leadership Board..
Wollen has played Santa Claus for the Olathe School and for various businesses for more than 45 years.
He and his wife of 52 years, Sally, are the parents of four grown daughters and have six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Other Board officers for 2005 elected during the Board's December meeting are: Jack M. Epps, vice chair; Paul E. Alvarado, Jr., secretary; Nancy Wallerstein, treasurer; Mark G. Stingley, assistant secretary; and Vickie Truitt, assistant treasurer.
