2005 Shelter Reservations for JCPRD Parks to be taken beginning Jan. 3
POSTED: 12/08/2004

On Monday, Jan. 3, the Johnson County Park and Recreation District will begin taking shelter reservations for 2005.

Reservations can be made through the JCPRD for shelters in Antioch Park, Shawnee Mission Park, Heritage Park, Thomas S. Stoll Memorial Park, Sunflower Park, Ernie Miller Park, Kill Creek Park, and the Mill Creek Streamway Park. Reservations can be made for a full day, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., or a half day, either 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. or 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Detailed information about shelter amenities and sizes is available under each of the park descriptions on the District's website at www.jcprd.com Shelter reservations are not available via the website.

There are three designations for shelter sizes in District parks. For information on how a specific shelter is designated, please consult the JCPRD Quarterly ACTIVITIES catalog or contact the reservation office. Because JCPRD parks are tax-supported facilities, nonresident fees for shelter reservations and permits are higher than those of county residents.

Small shelter reservation costs are $35 per half-day for residents and $50 per half-day for nonresidents and $55 per full-day for residents or $85 per full-day for nonresidents. Medium shelter reservation costs are $40 per half-day for residents and $55 per half-day for nonresidents and $65 per full-day for residents or $95 per full-day for nonresidents. Large shelter reservation costs are $60 per half-day for residents and $85 per half-day for nonresidents and $95 per full-day for residents or $130 per full-day for nonresidents.

Other District facilities which can be reserved beginning Jan. 3 are: the Antioch Park Rose Garden and the organized youth group camping area at Shawnee Mission Park. The cost for a three-hour Rose Garden Special Use Permit is $155 for Johnson County residents or $230 for nonresidents. Time frames for rose garden use are: 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., Noon to 3 p.m., and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Camping permits for organized groups are available to not-for-profit youth groups only for Shawnee Mission Park for $10 per day for Johnson County groups and $25 per day for nonresidents. The timeframe for campground reservations is Noon to Noon and there is a refundable key deposit of $20.

To make a reservation, contact the District's Reservation/Registration Department at Antioch Park, 6501 Antioch Road, Building C, Merriam. Reservations are accepted by phone at (913) 831-3359 from 8:30 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Registrations are also accepted in-person at the offices from 8:30 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Shelter reservations cannot be made by mail or through the District's website.

For more information or for a description of what each park offers, consult the facility pages on the website, the information pages in the back of the current JCPRD ACTIVITIES catalog, or call (913) 831-3359.
