|Introduction of HP3 signals new direction for long-time event|
For 26 years the Johnson County Park & Recreation District has sponsored a n early summer duathlon at Heritage Park. The agency plans to build on this tradition with the introduction of 5K and 10K runs along with the Duathlon.
The event will now be known as the HP3 and will consist of a duathlon which includes 3.1 mile run, a 17-mile bike, followed by another 3.1 mile run on a relatively flat course. The 5K and 10K routes are inside and slightly outside Heritage Park and incorporate the natural beauty of the trail system around the park. All three events will take place beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 12.
The event are open to all individuals ages 15 and over, with participants competing in five-year age groups from 15 years to 90 and above. Duathlon team categories include: men, women, coed, family, and club.
Duathlon registration fees are $60 for individuals and $90 for teams if received by April 26. After this date, late fees will be assessed as follows: registrations postmarked between April 27 and May 8 will be $70 for individuals and $100 for teams, and registrations turned after May 9 are $80 and $110.
5K registration fees are $20 per person if received by April 26. After this date, the fee increases to $25 until May 9, when it increases again to $30. 10K registration fees are $25 per person if received by April 26. After this date, the fee increases to $30 until May 8, when it increases again to $35.
