|Registrations now being taken for boys and girls Lacrosse Beginners League|
April 1 is the registration deadline for a boys and girls Lacrosse Beginners League being offered this spring by the Johnson County Park and Recreation District.
Lacrosse is a team sport of Native American origin, which may have developed as early as AD 1100, and which is played using a small rubber ball and a long-handled lacrosse stick. The objective of the game is to score by shooting the ball into an opponent’s goal, using the lacrosse stick to catch, carry, and pass the ball.
JCPRD is pleased to offer this six-week beginners league for players in grades one through eight who have less than one year of experience in the game. A 7 v 7 format is used for this program. Players will practice for 30 minutes and then play games for 40 minutes. Players will be separated by age, grade, and gender. Games and practices will take place on Thursday evenings beginning April 14 and ending May 9 at Thomas S. Stoll Memorial Park, 12500 W. 119th St., Overland Park.
To find this program in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under youth and then under sports. In the printed catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keyword “lacrosse.”
The cost for six weekly games and practices is $85 per person. All players will receive a reversible pinnie. Full equipment is required and a package of this gear at an affordable price will be available at an affordable cost in addition to the program fee.
