|Prescribed Fire in Parks and Urban Landscapes professional workshop to be presented by JCPRD on Nov. 29|
Fire is an essential tool in native habitat management of prairies and woodlands. A training workshop called Prescribed Fire in Parks and Urban Landscapes being planned for Wednesday, Nov. 29 by the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.
Led by JCPRD Field Biologist Matt Garrett, this workshop is geared toward parks staff, land stewards, and volunteers who may be conducting or assisting in fire management. Garrett has successfully used fire to maintain and restore vegetation on hundreds of acres of both remnant and reconstructed landscapes. Weather permitting, the workshop will include a live demonstration of fire techniques and will cover safety, weather, equipment, planning/permitting, operations, and the urban/rural interface.
This workshop will take place from 8:30 am to noon at the JCPRD Administration Building, 7900 Renner Road, Shawnee and Lenexa. The fee for this three-and-one-half-hour workshop is $10 per person and includes a continental breakfast. Register online at https://kcnpi.eventsmart.com/events/fire.
