Join the Easter Bunny’s Extreme Egg Hunt in Shawnee Mission Park on April 8!
POSTED: 03/16/2017
The Easter Bunny has taken the traditional egg hunt to the extreme for a third annual special event for all ages being planned eight days before Easter by the Johnson County Park & Recreation District. Preregistration for this event is required by April 3.

The event is called Easter Bunny’s Extreme Egg Hunt, and will be presented at two different times on Saturday, April 8. This event is for all ages, and the only way to find prize-filled eggs is with a GPS (Global Positioning Systems) unit! The event begins at Shawnee Mission Park's Shelter #4. Each family will receive a GPS unit to use for the event, as well as instructions on how to use the device to find hidden eggs scattered throughout the park. After finding all the eggs, participants will return back to the shelter for lunch and pictures with the Easter Bunny! In case of inclement weather, the reschedule date is Sunday, April 9.

To find this program in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under fun for all and then under special events. In the printed catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keyword “geocaching.”

One hunt will begin at 10 a.m. (barcode 36958), while another will begin at 11:30 a.m. (barcode 36960) on Sunday, April 8, in Shawnee Mission Park, 7900 Renner Road, Shawnee and Lenexa. The cost for this two-hour event which includes lunch, is $13 per person for Johnson County residents or $15 per person for nonresidents. A family rate for up to four people is $31 for Johnson County residents or $34 for nonresidents. To register online at, follow the “Register for Activities” link and do a barcode search for the barcodes listed above.

The 2016 event was very popular and this year's Extreme Egg Hunt is expected to fill quickly!

Printed copies of JCPRD’s Activities catalog are available for pickup at all Johnson County Library branches.
