Visit Lawrence's sports-related sites with 50 Plus day trip on March 21

Enjoy the spirit and excitement of collegiate sports on an outing to Lawrence, Kan. during an late March day trip being offered by the 50 Plus Department of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.

March Madness is the name of this trip. Participants will explore Allen Fieldhouse, home of the Jayhawks and five national men’s basketball championship titles. A private tour will include the upstairs sections as well as the court. Visit The DeBruce Center, home to the original rules of basketball written by the game’s creator, James Naismith. Savor a delicious lunch in downtown Lawrence. After lunch, a guided tour of the new Rock Chalk Park in west Lawrence will provide a look at the new track and field facility. This state-of-the-art complex is one of the only five of its kind in the U.S.

This trip will leave at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, March 21, from Antioch Park 6501 Antioch, Merriam, and return at approximately 4 p.m. that day. The cost is for this seven-hour day trip, including tours, admission, lunch, and transportation, is $59 per person. For more information or to register, call (913) 826-3030. While JCPRD’s 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend. Persons 18 and older who are interested in a 50 Plus class are invited to call the 50 Plus Department at (913) 826-3030 for space availability.
