|Irish Fest Day Trip for 50 Plus set for Oct. 8|
If you’re looking for a bit of "craic" (which is Irish for "fun") don’t miss a day trip being offered in early October by the 50 Plus Department of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.
This Irish Fest Day Trip will first make a stop at Browne’s Irish Marketplace in Kansas City, Mo., for a wee bit o’ shopping and one of their famous cookies or scones before continuing on to the Irish Festival in Weston, Mo. At the festival, participants will hear great storytelling, sample authentic food, and can try some crafted ales and lagers at local pubs. Visit underground cellars and O’Malley’s Courtyard to enjoy performances by Irish musicians, pipers, and dancers. Let us do the driving and parking as the motorcoach will drop you off near the front gate. Stroll to the festival past the town’s historic antebellum homes and buildings. Festival admission is included.
To find this program in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under 50 plus and then under travel. In the printed catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keywords "day trip."
This program will leave from Antioch Park, 6501 Antioch, Merriam, at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8, and return approximately 5:30 p.m. the same day. The cost for one eight-hour outing, including transportation, festival admission, and a sack lunch from Browne's, is $59 per person. For more information or to register, call (913) 831-3359. To register online at www.jcprd.com, click on the green "Register for Activities" button and complete a barcode search for 35352. Please register for this trip by Sept. 26.
While JCPRD’s 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend. Persons 18 and older who are interested in a 50 Plus class are invited to call the 50 Plus Department at (913) 826-3030 for space availability.
Printed copies of JCPRD’s Activities catalog are available for pickup at all Johnson County Library branches.
