Join our adventure in the Little Apple during 50 Plus day trip on Sept. 23
POSTED: 09/13/2016
Experience the Flint Hills Discovery Center in Manhattan and learn about the biology, and cultural history of this unique region during a day trip being planned in late September by the 50 Plus Department of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.

This program is called Little Apple Adventures and will take participants to several attractions in and around Manhattan, Kansas. First, we'll explore the Discover Center's interactive exhibits, a 4-D theater with surprising special effects, and the gift shop. Then enjoy a traditional Midwestern lunch at Little Apple Brewing Company. In the afternoon, meet our step-on guide who will take us on an informative city tour. On the beautiful Kansas State University campus, visit the Historic Costume and Textile Museum, followed by a stop at Call Hall for a complimentary scoop of homemade ice cream.

To find this trip in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under 50 Plus and then under travel. In the catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keywords “day trip.”

This outing will leave at 8 a.m. from Antioch Park, 6501 Antioch, Merriam, on Friday, Sept. 23, and will return about 6 p.m. that day. The cost for this outing is $79 per person and includes tickets, transportation, and lunch. For more information or to register, call (913) 831-3359. To register online at, click on the green “Register for Activities” button and complete a barcode search for 35351.

While JCPRD’s 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend. Persons 18 and older who are interested in a 50 Plus class are invited to call the 50 Plus Department at (913) 826-3030 for space availability.

The JCPRD's Activities catalog is available for pickup at all Johnson County Library branches.
