|Scouts Fur, Feathers, and Ferns Adventure event is Oct. 1 at Ernie Miller Nature Center|
Fur, Feathers and Ferns is a Cub Scout Bear program which lets scouts explore the outdoor world of mammals, birds, and plants and learn about creatures and how we affect our environment. A special event being planned at the Johnson County Park & Recreation District’s Ernie Miller Nature Center in early October will let scouts meet all the requirements for this program in one two-hour session..
This will be the third year the nature center has presented a Cub Scout Oriented program in early October and this year's event is called Fur, Feathers and Ferns Adventure. Participants will take a one mile hike and visit stations along the way. Scouts will see some of the live nature center animals up-close and observe the wildlife in the park with binoculars. See a working compost bin and worm bin and learn about composting. Learn about extinct and endangered animals. Smell and taste herbs and plant an herb to take home. This program will be led by JCPRD park naturalists and park police officers.
To find this program in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog, look first under fun for all and then under special events. Look for the keyword “scouts.”
This event will take place from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Ernie Miller Nature Center, 909 N. Kansas Highway 7, Olathe. The cost for one two-hour event is $5 per person, including adults, if paid in advance, or $7 per person onsite on the day of the event. For more information or to register, call (913) 831-3359.
