POSTED: 08/10/2016

The Kansas City Symphony will present its annual "Pops in the Park" concert on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 5, beginning at 7 p.m. at The Theatre in the Park in Shawnee Mission Park. The performance is free to audiences of all ages.

The parking lot opens at 4:30 p.m. with gates opening at 5 p.m. The symphony's Bush and Jamie Helzberg Instrument Petting Zoo opens at 5:30 p.m. Kids will enjoy this pre-concert activity where trained musicians help youngsters try their hands at a variety of orchestral instruments. Entertainment by the Youth Symphony of Kansas City begins at 6 p.m. and at 7 p.m., the orchestra takes the stage for a concert which celebrates the holiday with familiar classics, and fun movie music. This program will be the debut of Kansas City Symphony’s new Assistant Conductor Jason Seber. Bring your family and friends, plus blankets, lawn chairs, and a picnic dinner if you'd like.

Each year, this free community concert attracts thousands from around the metropolitan area and provides the opportunity to hear the Kansas City Symphony in a relaxed, outdoor setting. Sponsors for this year's concert include Kansas Gas Service, 99.7 The Point and 106.5 The Wolf. Visit kcsymphony.org for more information.
