FootGolf launches at Tomahawk Hills Golf Course with complimentary play on June 27 through July 3
POSTED: 06/24/2016

One of the metro area’s oldest golf courses has just added a new and unconventional reason to visit.

The Tomahawk Hills Golf Course has added a separate FootGolf course, and to help launch the new facility, complimentary play is being offered the week of June 27 through July 3.

As you might guess from the name, FootGolf combines two sports in one - soccer and golf.

“FootGolf is a precision sport where players kick a soccer ball into a cup - in as few shots as possible,” said Tomahawk Hills Golf Professional Jay Lispi. “There is a special cup for FootGolf to hold a soccer ball for when they hole out. The rules used in golf are also used in FootGolf.  This is fun for everyone, especially families looking for an inexpensive activity for everyone to play.”

The recently-established FootGolf course is located within the existing THGC golf course property. The new nine-hole FootGolf course is located in the eastern lower portion of the course property with holes in an area between the fairways of regular golf holes 1 and 3, as well as along the northern border of the course along Midland Drive. There is just one non-play area where FootGolfers might cross paths with other golfers near the first hole. No soccer cleats are allowed.

“FootGolf started a few years ago as another income source, and a way to get people around a golf course and hopefully turn them into golfers,” Lispi said. “It also opens up the door for possible company leagues to add to golf leagues. There are a couple of FootGolf courses in Kansas City, but not in our area.”

Those coming to play FootGolf should bring soccer balls for each player, or they can be rented at the clubhouse for $3.

Following the week of complimentary play, regular FootGolf fees for adults will be $7 for nine holes, and an additional $3 to go around the course again. For juniors under 18, the cost is $5, and $2 for a second round. Carts are not required, but can be rented for $8 for nine holes, and $4 for a second round.

Originally built in 1910, the Tomahawk Hills Golf Course is located at 17501 Midland Drive in Shawnee, and is owned and operated by the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.  For more information, contact the golf clubhouse at (913) 631-8000.
