|Celebrate Scott Joplin's ragtime music during 50 Plus day trip on June 2|
Celebrate syncopated and popular music by visiting the annual Scott Joplin Ragtime Festival in Sedalia, Mo., during an early June day trip being offered by the 50 Plus Department of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.
During this trip, called Ragtime Festival, participants will hear piano songs Joplin composed while living in Sedalia including, "Maple Leaf Rag" and "The Entertainer," which was made famous by the 1973 movie, "The Sting." Meet some of the top ragtime musicians from around the world and enjoy their fun performances and musical interpretations. Find out how this first American music genre has influenced jazz, classical, and pop music. See how many tunes you recognize that have been used in movies, commercials, and cartoons. Lunch is at the Ivory Grille, located next door to the Ragtime Foundation gift shop.

This trip will leave at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 2, from Antioch Park, 6501 Antioch, Merriam, and return at approximately 5 p.m. that day. While JCPRD’s 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend.
