21st Annual In Step and In Shape Walk is June 1 in Antioch Park
POSTED: 05/06/2016

For over two decades, an early summer special event has provided 50 Plus participants with an opportunity to get outside, enjoy local trails, and stay active.

This year’s In Step and In Shape event will take place on Wednesday, June 1, in Antioch Park, 6501 Antioch, Merriam. This year’s event will begin at 9 a.m. under Antioch Park’s Shelter #3. In addition to an organized walk on the park’s one-mile trail, there will be opportunities to try out various fitness activities, visit with a number of vendors, appreciate some musical entertainment, and enjoy a catered lunch. This year’s lunch speaker is Leawood Mayor Peggy Dunn, a one-woman civic whirlwind and an avid user of local trails. She has been the mayor of Leawood since 1997 and has also served as chairwoman of the United Way of Greater Kansas City. Besides her commitment to the community, she places a high priority on her family, spending time with her husband, four children, and ten grandchildren. "Life inspires me; family inspires me," she says. She will inspire you to get moving!

To find this program in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under 50 Plus and then under special events. In the catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keywords “special event.”

Walk participants will check in at Antioch Park's Shelter #3 at 9 a.m. The cost for this four-hour event is $8 per person. Preregistration is required. Event T-shirts are available for $6, but you must register by May 17 to ensure a shirt. For more information or to register, call (913) 831-3359. To register online at www.jcprd.com, follow the “Register for Activities” link and complete a barcode search for 30639.

While JCPRD’s 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend. Persons 18 and older who are interested in a 50 Plus class are invited to call the 50 Plus Department at (913) 826-3030 for space availability.
The JCPRD's Activities catalog is available for pickup at all Johnson County Library branches.
