Don't miss free new Johnson County Track & Field Meet for youth on April 30
POSTED: 04/08/2016

April 20 is the registration deadline for a free new youth track and field meet being presented by the Johnson County Park & Recreation District in late April.

This First Annual Johnson County Track & Field Meet is for ages six through 14 and will take place on Saturday, April 30, at Shawnee Mission Northwest High School, 12701 W. 67th St., Shawnee.

This meet will use a drop-in format so participants are able to compete in most events at any time. Events offered include 50 meter, 100 meter, 200 meter, 400 meter, 800 meter, 1600 meter, long jump, and the turbo throw. Participants can take part in as many events as they choose, but just once per event. The 1600 meter will be held at 9:30 am and the 800 meter will be held at 10:30 am. A 50 meter fun run for kids ages six to eight will be held on the half-hours. Participants may be placed in heats with different ages and gender. Overall results will be emailed to parents the following week. No awards will be distributed for this event.

To find this program in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under youth and then sports. In the printed catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keyword "track."

The Johnson County Track & Field Meet will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. While this event is free to participants and spectators, participants must register by Wednesday, April 20, as no walk-up registrations will be accepted the day of the event. The first 150 kids who register will receive a shirt. To register online at www.jcprd.com, follow the "Register for Activities" link and complete a barcode search for 34174. For questions, call (913) 826-2850.

The JCPRD Activities catalog is available for pickup at all Johnson County Library branches.
