Sing-Along program on April 8 is next of JCPRD's Dementia Friendly programs
POSTED: 03/24/2016

A Sing-Along event in early April, which includes dinner, is the next in an ongoing series of Dementia Friendly programs being offered by the 50 Plus Department of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.

These programs are presented in conjunction with the Alzheimer’s Association of Kansas City. They are designed for persons with early stages of memory-loss and their caretakers to enjoy together while living active lifestyles and connecting with others in our community.

The Alzheimer’s Association understands that music is stored in many areas of the brain and is a basic part of what makes us human. Listening to music and singing along can engage the person with dementia even as memory fails. For the Sing-Along event on April 8, participants are invited to an evening of singing old favorites with local singing talent Frank Curtis and pianist Phyllis Curtis.

To find this program in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under 50 plus and then under enrichment & special interests. In the catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keyword “networking.”

The Sing-Along event will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 8, at the Roeland Park Community Center, 4850 Rosewood Dr., Roeland Park. The cost for this two-hour event, including dinner, is $12 per person for Johnson County residents or $14 per person for nonresidents. To register, call (913) 831-3359. To register online at www.jcprd.com, follow the “Register for Activities” link and complete a barcode search for 31953. For more information, call Lisa at (913) 826-3160.

The JCPRD’s Activities catalog is available for pickup at all Johnson County Library branches.
