|50 Plus plans Adventure Walk at George Owens Nature Park on March 9|
George Owens Nature Park near Independence, Mo., is the destination for the first of two adventure walks being planned this spring by the 50 Plus Department of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.
This George Owens Nature Park Adventure Walk provides the opportunity to reconnect with the natural environment. Trails, a beautiful forest, and possible wildlife sightings await us. Lunch will take place afterwards at the Café Verona Italian restaurant, just off the historic Independence courthouse square. Lunch costs are on your own. This outing is considered a moderate-intensity walk. Please register at least one week prior to departure. Our inclement weather date is the following week. Cancellations for refunds (except in emergencies) must be received by the Friday before the scheduled hike.
To find this program in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under 50 plus and then under nature & outdoors. In the printed catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keywords "adventure walk."
This program will leave from Antioch Park, 6501 Antioch, Merriam, at 9 a.m. The cost for one seven -hour outing, including transportation, is $21 per person for Johnson County residents or $24 for nonresidents. To register online at www.jcprd.com, follow the “Register for Activities” link and do a barcode search for 32059.
The other Adventure Walk planned this spring is an outing to the Milford State Park on April 6 (barcode 32060).
