|2004 Passport to to Adventure to Kick Off April 25 at Union Station|
The Interpretive Site Coalition of Kansas City will officially start its 2004 Passport to Adventure Hunt with a Kickoff Event on April 25 at Union Station, 30 W. Pershing, Kansas City, Mo. Both the April 25 Kickoff and Adventure Hunt participation are free.
Now in its eleventh year, the Passport to Adventure Hunt is a great way for area residents to experience nature, science, and history in their own backyard. The annual event is meant to encourage the public to visit area nature centers, museums and historic sites between April 25 and Sept. 27.
During the kickoff event from 1 to 4 p.m. on April 25, each of the participating agencies (see list below) will be represented and will be presenting hands-on activities relating to their sites. Live animals will also be on hand, courtesy of Kansas City, Mo.'s Lakeside Nature Center and Johnson County Park and Recreation District's Ernie Miller Nature Center, which will also have a giant spider web made of bungee cords that kids can climb through. The kickoff is also the public's first opportunity to obtain official passports for the 2004 Passport to Adventure Hunt.
After participants obtain a passport, either at the Union Station Kickoff or at any of the participating sites, they then have until Sept. 27 to get their passport stamped at all 13 participating sites in order to be eligible for prizes. Everyone who does so will receive a package of prizes by mail. In addition, each participating site will offer a small complimentary gift for answering a question relating to the site at the time the passport is stamped.
