|District Closes on Prairie Village Lot|
A small property in Prairie Village recently became the first parcel acquired by the Johnson County Park and Recreation District as part of efforts to assist in providing park land in the northeastern part of the county.
JCPRD Planning and Development Manager Bill Maasen said the District closed on Feb. 6 on land at 6840 Mission Road. The property, which currently contains a house, is adjacent to and will become part of the city's Prairie Park.
"We own it now and the city is responsible for razing the house and cleaning it up and getting it ready for park use," Maasen said of the Prairie Village property."
The District's intent is to purchase property within the Shawnee Mission School District which will then be leased to local municipalities for use as city parks. In mid-2003, the District sought help from municipalities in identifying possible parcels for acquisition and is currently working with several of the cities.
