Kansas City Rowing Club Makes ATC Its New Indoor Training Facility

Five high-end rowing machines will be available for use to members of the Johnson County Park and Recreation District's Athletic Training Center, 9301 W. 73rd St., Merriam, as the result of a recently-announced new agreement with the Kansas City Rowing Club.

Under the agrement, the club, which boasts about 120 members, will make the ATC its new indoor training facility, effective immediately. The group, which has both youth and adult aspects, is the only rowing club in the Kansas City area. The club has members ranging from persons who have never rowed before up to highly-competitive rowers and offers recreational as well as competitive rowing programs for men and women of all ages.

The Kansas City Rowing Club previously did its indoor trqining at a Kansas City, Kansas location, but moved to the ATC to be more convenient for its many Johnson County members. The groups does its on-water training on the Kansas River near the Kansas City stockyards.

As part of the arrangement with the ATC, the organization will provide five of its Concept 2 Ergometric Rowing Machines to the center, where they will be available to all ATC members. The machines arrived the week of Dec. 8 and training in the use of the new equipment in already under way. It is anticipated two new classes using the rowing machines will be offered at the center.
