|New Readers Cafe Book Club for 50 Plus begins Jan. 11 at Matt Ross Community Center|
Pull up a comfy chair next to the fire, enjoy a good cup of coffee, and engage in book discussions with your peers during a new book club for 50 Plus being offered in mid-January by the 50 Plus Department of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.
Reader’s Café Book Club is the name of this program, which will take place once a month at the Matt Ross Community Center, 8101 Marty St., Overland Park. Participants are responsible for providing their own books. Please come prepared to discuss the following books: January “The Girl on the Train” by Paula Hawkins; February “The Book of Unknown Americans” by Cristina Henriquez; March “We Were Liars” by E. Lockhart; and for April “The Fragile World” by Paula Treick DeBoard.
To find this program in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under 50 Plus and then under Enrichment & Special Interests. In the catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keyword “reading.”
This program takes place at 9:30 a.m. on the second Monday of each month beginning Jan. 11. The cost for four one-hour sessions is $5 per person for Johnson County residents or $6 for nonresidents. For more information or to register, call (913) 642-6410. To register online at www.jcprd.com, click on the green “Register for Activities” button and complete a barcode search for 31915. New participants are welcome at any time.
While JCPRD’s 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend. Persons 18 and older who are interested in a 50 Plus class are invited to call the 50 Plus Department at (913) 826-3030 for space availability.
JCPRD’s Activities catalog, with information and a registration form, is available for pickup at all Johnson County Library branches.
