A lunch program featuring fine cuisine and exceptional music is being offered three times in early December by the 50 Plus Department of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.
Not listed in the current Activities catalog or online listings, these events are called Love in the Afternoon and all three programs begin at noon.
All three December programs will have the theme "A Christmas Prayer." One program will take place on Friday, Dec. 4, at the Roeland Park Community Center, 4850 Rosewood Dr., Roeland Park; another will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 8, at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 10100 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park; and the third program will take place on Thursday, Dec. 10., at the Old Shawnee Town Hall in Herman Laird Park, 11501 W 57th St, Shawnee.
The cost for each two-hour program, including lunch and a show, is $15 per ticket, and must be purchased in advance by calling Shawnee Heartland Assisted Living at (913) 248-6688.
Another series of Love in the Afternoon events is planned for February, when the theme will be "Isn’t It Romantic?" Those will include a Feb. 4 performance at Old Shawnee Town Hall, a Feb. 9 performance at Emmanuel Baptist Church, and a Feb. 12 performance at the Roeland Park Community Center.
