|Journey to Jamesport in Autumn with 50 Plus day trip on Oct. 13|
Journey to Jamesport, famous for its downtown crafts, antique stores, and Amish settlement, during a mid-October day trip being presented by the 50 Plus Department of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.
Jamesport in Autumn is the name of this trip. Participants will enjoy free time to shop followed by a delicious buffet lunch. A guided tour will help travelers experience this "horse and buggy" community that lives without cars or electricity. Drive by a one-room country school, sawmill, deer farms, and a cemetery. Visit an Amish home where family members will demonstrate the workings of their farm (no photos here please). Stop at an Amish bakery and country store where you can buy hand-crafted furniture, quilts, rugs, baskets, soap, and spices. Be sure to bring cash or checks for purchases as Amish stores do not accept credit cards.
