|50 Plus plans Adventure Walk at Bothwell Lodge State Historic Site on Sept. 23|
Bothwell Lodge State Historic Site near Sedalia, Mo., is the destination for the first of three adventure walks being planned by the 50 Plus Department of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.
To kick off the autumn season, this outing, called the Bothwell Lodge State Historic Site Adventure Walk, will take participants to trek the park's Radiant Trail on Wednesday, Sept. 23. The name comes from John Bothwell’s love of nature. Enjoy a natural-terrain trail completed by volunteers in 2006. Lunch will take place at the Ivory Grill in Sedalia, with costs on your own. This outing is considered a moderate-intensity walk. To find this program in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under 50 plus and then under nature & outdoors. In the printed catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keywords “adventure walk.”
This program will leave from Antioch Park, 6501 Antioch, Merriam, at 9 a.m. The cost for one seven -hour outing, including transportation, is $21 per person for Johnson County residents or $24 for nonresidents. To register online at www.jcprd.com, click on the green “Register for Activities” button and complete a barcode search for 29823.
Other Adventure Walks planned this fall include an outing to the Konza Prairie on Oct. 21 (barcode 29825) and a trip to the Rock of Arrows Trip in the Missouri River Valley on Nov. 18 (barcode 29826).
While the JCPRD's 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend. Persons 18 and older who are interested in a 50 Plus class are invited to call the District's Registration Department at (913) 831-3359, and if space is available without forfeiting the place of a person over 50, their registration can be taken.
Printed copies of JCPRD’s Activities catalog are available for pickup at all Johnson County Library branches.
