|Discover Walt Disney's roots with Toonfest in Marceline day trip on Sept. 19|
Travel to the boyhood home of Walt Disney for the 17th annual cartoon festival during an intergenerational day trip being planned for late September by the 50 Plus Department of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.
Toonfest in Marceline is the name of this trip. Bring your princess or pirate ages five to ten (costumes encouraged) or come with friends as this trip is fun for all! Enjoy breakfast on the bus and settle in for a movie on the way to Marceline, Mo. Kick off the day at the Main Street parade where the kids have a chance to ride on the floats. Enjoy festival activities including a cartoon art show and silent auction, craft and novelty booths, and a symposium featuring speakers from the animation world's A-list. Kids can go to a Princess Tea Party or Pirate Plunder on the Muddy Pearl. For lunch on your own, choose from a variety of food vendors or enjoy a meal by the Knights of Columbus. End the day with a visit to the Walt Disney Hometown Museum to explore the “Birthplace of Dreams.”
