A Grandparents' Day Picnic in mid-September is the first in a series of three new Dementia Friendly programs being offered this fall by the 50 Plus Department of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.
These programs are being presented in conjunction with the Alzheimer’s Association of Kansas City to begin dementia-friendly activities at JCPRD parks and facilities. They are designed for persons with early stages of memory-loss and their caretakers to enjoy together while living active lifestyles and connecting with others in our community.
The Grandparents' Day Picnic is set for Sunday, Sept. 13. Participants are invited to pack a blanket and bring the entire family for this event, which will include lunch, entertainment, and activities.
To find this program in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under 50 plus and then under enrichment & special interests. In the catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keyword “networking.”
This program takes place beginning at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13, at Shawnee Mission Park's Shelter #4, located west of the marina on the north side of the lake. The cost for one two-hour event is $10 per adult or $7 for children 12 and under. For more information, call Lisa at (913) 826-3160. To register, call (913) 831-3359.
