Gridiron Glory exhibit, National Archives, are destinations for Sept. 3 day trip
POSTED: 08/13/2015
Visit Union Station to see “The Best of Pro Football Hall of Fame” as well as the nearby branch of the National Archives during an early September day trip being planned by the 50 Plus Department of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.

Gridiron Glory and National Archives is the name of this trip. Gridiron Glory is a blockbuster exhibition with inspiring stories of the game’s greatest players and significant plays throughout the years. Visitors can immerse themselves in interactive areas, explore the early days of football, and see hundreds of priceless artifacts. After lunch at Lidia’s Italian restaurant, explore the National Archives, where you can learn about genealogy research and go through their special exhibit, All Sewn Up: The Garment Industry Goes to Court, which explores the relationship between the Federal government and the garment and beauty industry from the 1870s to the 1950s.

To find this program in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under 50 Plus and then under special events. In the catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keywords “day trip.”

This trip will leave at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3, from Antioch Park 6501 Antioch, Merriam, and return at approximately 5 p.m. that day. The cost is $79 per person and includes lunch.

The JCPRD’s Activities catalog, with information and a registration form, is available for pickup at all Johnson County Library branches. For more information or to register, call (913) 826-3030. To see this program online at, follow the “Register for Activities” link and do a barcode search for 31028.

While JCPRD’s 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend. Persons 18 and older who are interested in a 50 Plus class are invited to call the District’s Registration Department at (913) 831-3359, and if space is available without forfeiting the place of a person over 50, their registration can be taken.
