|Installation of Pedestrian Bridge Over Turkey Creek Set Back One Week|
The installation of a 137-foot long bridge across Turkey Creek at the Merriam Market Place, 5740 Merriam Drive, has been postponed by one week.
Installation of the bridge is now tentatively set for approximately 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 1. The installation was originally anticipated on Sept. 24 but was postponed after a contractor was unable to secure a truck with bridge decking to transport the big bridge.
The new bridge is being installed by the Johnson County Park and Recreation District in association with the City of Merriam and will be a major part of an expansion of the Turkey Creek Streamway Park. The project will extend the two and one-quarter mile trail an additional quarter-mile from Johnson Drive north to the bridge crossing at the Merriam Marketplace. The Turkey Creek Streamway Park is currently bounded by Johnson Drive on the north and 75th Street on the south.
It is anticipated the project will be completed by Spring 2004 and will provide trail users and neighbors an opportunity to access the Marketplace and downtown Merriam shops without having to cross the heavy traffic on either Johnson Drive or Merriam Drive.
