Register on or before Aug. 17 to receive the lowest registration fee for the eighth annual Olathe Medical Center Women’s Triathlon & Duathlon

Register on or before August 17th to secure your spot at the lowest registration price for the eighth -annual Olathe Medical Center Women’s Triathlon & Duathlon. The event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 12, at Kill Creek Park, 11670 Homestead Lane, Olathe.

The triathlon will begin at 8 a.m. and involves a 500-meter swim starting and ending at the park’s beach, followed by a 10.6-mile bike consisting of a square loop on county roads to the east of Kill Creek Park, and a 3.1-mile run on park trails. This USA Triathlon-sanctioned event will be open to individuals, as well as to teams with two or three athletes. New for 2015 is a duathlon, consisting of a 3.1-mile run, followed by a 10.6-mile bike, and another 3.1-mile run.

Started in 2008, the Olathe Medical Center Women’s Triathlon is the first all-women’s triathlon sanctioned by the United States of America Triathlon Committee in the state of Kansas, and is a special event of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District. It was recognized in 2009 as the Kansas Recreation and Park Association’s Outstanding New Program. This event is limited to 450 participants and is expected to fill, so early registration is encouraged.

On or before Aug. 17, registration fees for the triathlon are $70 for individuals and $95 for teams. After Aug. 17 and until Sept. 7, the cost is $80 for individuals and $105 for teams. After Sept. 7, the cost is $90 for individuals and $115 for teams. Until Aug. 17, registration fees for the duathlon are $60 for individuals and $90 for teams. After Aug. 17 and until Sept. 7, the cost is $70 for individuals and $100 for teams. After Sept. 7, the cost is $80 for individuals and $110 for teams. . In addition, participants, including team members, must also be members of USA Triathlon. One-day memberships are $12 and annual memberships are $45.

Following the event, Chris Cakes will be on-site providing pancakes. Pancakes will be free of charge for all participants and volunteers and $5 for spectators.
