Weekend Walk for 50 Plus takes participants to Parkville on Aug. 8
POSTED: 07/16/2015

The Parkville Nature Sanctuary has some beautiful trails and you can explore some of them during a Weekend Walk being offered by the 50 Plus Department of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.

The program is called the Parkville Nature Sanctuary Walk and will take place on Saturday, Aug. 8. Participants will enjoy a easy intensity walk. There's also a visitor's center and a great overlook with a view of 115 acres of primitive Missouri forests. After the walk, the group will enjoy lunch at Nick & Jakes in Parkville, where participants will be responsible for their own lunch costs. To find this program in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under 50 Plus and then under nature & outdoors. In the catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keywords “weekend walk.”

This outing will depart a 10 a.m. from Antioch Park, 6501 Antioch, Merriam. The cost for this six -hour outing, including van transportation to the walk site, is $21 per person for Johnson County residents or $24 for nonresidents. For more information or to register, call (913) 831-3359. To register online at www.jcprd.com, click on the green “Register for Activities” button and complete a barcode search for 28525.

While the JCPRD’s 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend. Persons 18 and older who are interested in a 50 Plus class are invited to call the District’s Registration Department at (913) 831-3359, and if space is available without forfeiting the place of a person over 50, their registration can be taken.

The JCPRD’s Activities catalog, with information and a registration form, is available for pickup at all Johnson County Library branches.
