Roeland Park Aquatic Center to conduct July Food Drive and Aug. 1 Lifeguard Olympics
POSTED: 06/10/2015

Lifeguards at the Roeland Park Aquatic Center will be conducting a food drive to benefit a local food pantry throughout the month of July, followed by an Aug. 1 Lifeguard Olympics, which is also part of the food drive.

Each week of the month will have a different theme. For the week of July 1, the theme is canned food. For the week of July 6, the theme is canned food. For the week of July 13, bagged food. For the week of July 20, the theme is toiletries. And for the week of July 27, the theme is non-perishables with bonus points for peanut butter. All donated food items must be sealed and within the expiration date. If you have a favorite lifeguard or staff member, help them by adding to their bucket! This will be a great fun way to give back to the community.

The new Lifeguard Olympics event will take place beginning at 4 p.m. at the RPAC. The admission price for spectators is a canned food item.

The Roeland Park Aquatic Center is located at 4843 Rosewood Dr., just east of the Roeland Park Community Center, and is owned by the City of Roeland Park and operated by the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.

During the summer season through August, the facility offers daily open swim hours from noon to 7:30 p.m., except for Sunday, when the hours are noon to 6 p.m. The cost for individual admission varies by age and residency. For ages three to 59, the cost is $6 per person for Roeland Park residents, $7 per person for Johnson County residents, and $8 per person for non-county residents. For ages 60 and older, the cost is $5.50 per person for Roeland Park residents, $6.50 per person for Johnson County residents, and $7.50 per person for non-county residents. Admission for ages two and under is free, regardless of residency.

The Roeland Park Aquatic Center features an inverted C-shaped 50-meter pool. The pool has a zero-depth entry and a maximum depth of 13 feet. Other features include: a 25 yard by 25 meter competitive area; four 50-meter swimming lanes; and a bath house with lockers and a family change area.

The facility also offers swim instruction for all ages, water exercise programs, and a variety of special events. For information on current happenings at the facility, call (913) 432-1377.
