|Sailing I class offered for adults beginning May 26|
Learn the basic skills of sailing through a class being offered by the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.
Sailing I is for ages 18 and older. Participants will learn about types of boats, launching techniques, docking, maintenance, and safety. Basic swimming skills are required. To find this program in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under adult and then nature & outdoors. In the printed catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keyword "boating."
Sailing I is instructed by members of the Johnson County Sailing Society and consists of two indoor lecture sessions and four water sessions. The indoor sessions will take place beginning at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, and Thursday, May 28, at the John Barkley Visitor Center near the entrance to Shawnee Mission Park, 7900 Renner Road, Shawnee. The water sessions will take place at 9 a.m. on four consecutive Saturdays beginning May 30 at Shawnee Mission Park Lake. The cost for a total of six two-hour sessions is $65 per person for Johnson County residents or $71 per person for nonresidents.
