20th Annual In Step and In Shape Walk is May 20 in Antioch Park
POSTED: 04/22/2015

For 20 summers now, a May special event has provided 50 Plus participants with an opportunity to get outside, enjoy local trails, and stay active.

This year’s In Step and In Shape event will take place on Wednesday, May 20, in Antioch Park, 6501 Antioch, Merriam, and will mark the completion of two decades of the half-day event, which was first offered in 1996.

This year’s event, which requires advance registration by May 8 to ensure a T-shirt, will begin at 9 a.m. under Antioch Park’s Shelter #3. In addition to an organized walk on the park’s one-mile trail, there will be opportunities to try out various fitness activities, visit with a number of vendors, appreciate some musical entertainment, and enjoy a catered lunch. This year’s lunch speaker is KSHB-41 Anchor/Reporter Jadiann Thompson.

For the 20th anniversary event, staff will also be selling special anniversary themed T-shirts which will include the logo for the Johnson County Park and Recreation District’s 60th Anniversary, also in 2015.

To find this program in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under 50 plus and then under special events. In the catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keywords “special event.”

Walk participants will check in at Antioch Park's Shelter #3 at 9 a.m. The cost for this four-hour event is $8 per person. Preregistration is required. For more information or to register, call (913) 831-3359. To register online at www.jcprd.com, follow the “Register for Activities” link and complete a barcode search for 27010.

While the JCPRD’s 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend. Persons 18 and older who are interested in a 50 Plus class are invited to call the District’s Registration Department at (913) 831-3359, and if space is available without forfeiting the place of a person over 50, their registration can be taken.

The JCPRD's Activities catalog is available for pickup at all Johnson County Library branches.
