HP3 event, including Duathlon, 5K and 10K, set for May 9 in Heritage Park

For more than 26 years the Johnson County Park & Recreation District has sponsored an early summer duathlon at Heritage Park. In 2013, the event added 5K and 10K runs along with the duathlon, and these are continuing this year.

The event, now known as the HP3, consists of a duathlon including 3.1 mile run, a 17-mile bike, followed by another 3.1 mile run. The run portion of the duathlon along with the 5K and 10K routes are inside Heritage Park and incorporate the natural beauty of the trail system and the park. The bike portion of the duathlon is inside and slightly outside of the Heritage Park. All three events will take place beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 9.

To find these events in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog, browse first under adult and then under special events. In the catalog, look for the keyword “duathlon.”

The duathlon and 10K events is open to all individuals ages 16 and over, with participants competing in five-year age groups from 16 years to 90 and above.

Duathlon registration fees are $60 for individuals and $90 for teams until May 4. After this date, fees will be $70 for individuals and $100 for teams. 10K registration fees are $25 per person until May 4. After this date, the fee increases to $30.

5K registration fees are $18 per person until May 4, for individuals ages 16 and older. After this date, the fee increases to $20. For individuals 15 years of age and younger the fees are $10 per person until May 4. After this date the fee increases to $12.

This program is also eligible for credit in the Physical dimension for the JCPRD U holistic wellness program for participants ages three to 18. The HP3 is a special event of the Johnson County Park &Recreation District and is sponsored by: Radio Stations ESPN 1510 and Sports Radio 810, Coca-Cola, Speedo, Swim Quik, Hiland Dairy Foods, Elite Cycling, Tri KC Triathlon Club, KC Multi Sport. Proceeds from the HP3 will benefit the Kansas City Blazers Competitive Swim Team.
