Patron Appreciation Day returns on May 2 at seven JCPRD facilities
POSTED: 04/16/2015
A special event lets participants enjoy a number of discounts or free activities at seven Johnson County Park & Recreation District facilities returns in early May.

Meant as a counterpart to the agency's A Day in the Park event, which since 2010 has offered free outdoor activities at several parks on National Trails Day, this event is called Patron Appreciation Day. This event was introduced in 2014 and this year will take place on Saturday, May 2 with an emphasis on indoor facilities and activities.

At the Ernie Miller Nature Center, this day's patrons can enjoy a 10 percent discount at the Nature's Corner Gift Shop. At the Heritage Park and Tomahawk Hills Golf Courses, after noon, patron card holders can bring a non-patron card holder and enjoy a round of golf for two for $40. At the Mill Creek Activity Center, participants can enjoy free use of fitness equipment and the indoor walking track from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participants ages 14 to 16 require adult supervision while using fitness equipment. At the New Century Fieldhouse, there will be free drop-in soccer at McDonald's Field, a state of the art multiuse Sprinturf field from noon to 3 p.m., but participants need to be sure to bring their own soccer ball to use. At the dome-covered Roeland Park Aquatic Center, free open swimming is offered from noon to 5 p.m. Inside the Roeland Park Community Center, free use of equipment in the center's fitness room is offered from 8 a.m. to noon, and coupons for 10 percent off room rentals booked for any 2015 date by June 5 will also be available.

For safety, use of fitness equipment at the Mill Creek Activity Center and the Roeland Park Community Center is limited to ages 14 and older and ages 14 to 16 must be supervised.

The Ernie Miller Nature Center is located at 909 N. Kansas 7 Highway, Olathe. Heritage Park Golf Course is located at 16445 Lackman, Olathe, while the Tomahawk Hills Golf Course is located at 17501 Midland Dr., Olathe. The Mill Creek Activity Center is located at 6518 Vista Dr., Shawnee. The New Century Fieldhouse is located at 551 New Century Parkway, near Gardner. The Roeland Park Aquatic Center and Community Center, are located at 4850 Rosewood Dr., Roeland Park.

This year's A Day in the Park event is scheduled for June 6 at Shawnee Mission and Kill Creek parks.
