New Indoor Turf Camping event planned on April 18 at New Century Fieldhouse
POSTED: 03/26/2015

It may be too cold to camp outside in April, but come camp inside during a new special event planned in mid-April by the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.

This new special event for all ages is called Indoor Turf Camping and will let participants have camping experience on McDonald's Field, the state-of-the-art multipurpose Sprinturf field at the New Century Fieldhouse, 551 New Century Parkway near Gardner.

There will be hamburgers, hotdogs, and even s’mores. Participants can sit around the ‘campfire,’ tell stories, and sing songs. There will be games like flashlight tag and hide and seek! The whole family will enjoy this outing without going outside. This will be a comfortable way to sleep on the ground and the best part is no bugs!

To find this program in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under Fun For All and then under special events. In the catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keyword “camping.”

This program will run from 6 p.m., on Saturday, April 18, to approximately 10 a.m. on Sunday, April 19. Dinner and breakfast are included. Campers will need to bring their own camping equipment including self-supporting tents (no stakes), and sleeping bags, etc. The cost per individual for this 16-hour event is $10 for Johnson County residents or $11 for nonresidents or a family rate for up to four people is $35 for Johnson County residents or $40 for nonresidents. The registration deadline for this program is Friday, April 3.

For more information or to register, call (913) 831-3359. To register online at www.jcprd.com, follow the “Register for Activities” link and do a barcode search for 26511.

This program are also eligible for credit in the Environmental dimension for the JCPRD U holistic wellness program for participants ages three to 18. Participants can complete Achievement Classes (similar to academic grade levels) and earn Achievement Badges and awards. To register for JCPRD U, contact Sarah Shaw at (913) 826-2953 or at sarah.shaw@jocogov.org.

The JCPRD’s Activities catalog, with information and a registration form, is available for pickup at all Johnson County Library branches.
