Sock hop murder mystery event is Dec. 12 at Mill Creek Activity Center
POSTED: 11/20/2014
A 1950’s sock hop is the setting for a murder mystery event being planned by JCPRD’s 50 Plus department. The event, called Murder Mystery Sock Hop, promises a fun evening with dinner and interactive entertainment. Tuesday, Dec. 9, is the registration deadline for this event, which will take place on Friday, Dec. 12.

“Participants will enjoy playing a character from the 1950’s during a sock hop,” explained 50 Plus Recreation Coordinator Jenny Smith, who is planning this event and will also be playing a part in the story. “We want everyone to have the chance to play a part in the mystery, enjoy themselves being silly, and have a fun night with us.”

This year’s murder mystery event follows a successful Roaring 20’s Murder Mystery presented last December. This year’s event was originally planned in early October, but was postponed for scheduling reasons.

Participants will receive character descriptions and story history prior to the event. Everyone who solves the mystery will receive a Super Sleuth certificate.

The Murder Mystery event will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 12, in Studio I at the Mill Creek Activity Center, 6518 Vista Dr., Shawnee. The cost for this four-hour event is $31 per person and includes dinner, which in keeping with this year’s story set in a diner, will consist of cheeseburgers, fries, and milkshakes.

For more information or to register, call (913) 831-3355. To register online at, follow the “Register for Activities” link and complete a barcode search for 22959. Printed copies of JCPRD’s Activities catalog are available for pickup at all Johnson County Library branches.

While JCPRD’s 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend. Persons 18 and older who are interested in a 50 Plus activity are invited to call our Registration Department at (913) 831-3359, and if space is available without forfeiting the place of a person over 50, their registration can be taken.
