New Frogs and Fairies Geocaching event is Sept. 27 at Santa Fe Commons Park
POSTED: 09/03/2014

Participants can pretend to be surrounded by frogs becoming princes and fairies flitting around the park during a new geocaching special event being offered by the Johnson County Park & Recreation District in late September.

Frogs and Fairies Geocaching is the name of the program, which is for all ages, and will take place beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27, at Santa Fe Commons Park, 8045 Santa Fe Dr., Overland Park. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Geocaching is an outdoor treasure-hunting game in which participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver to hide and seek containers called "geocaches," which contain a logbook and a "treasure" - usually toys or trinkets. Participants will receive use of a GPS device, an introductory "how to" session, and a new prize for each cache. To find this program in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under fun for all and then under special events. In the catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keyword "geocaching."

The cost for one two-hour event is $10 per person for Johnson County residents or $11 per person for nonresidents. A family rate for up to four people is also offered at a cost of $27 for Johnson County residents or $30 for nonresidents. Keep in mind that those registering as a family will receive one GPS unit per family. Preregistrations for this program are due by Sept. 19.

The JCPRD's Activities catalog, with information and a registration form, is available for pickup at all Johnson County Library branches. For more information or to register, call (913) 831-3359. To register online and for updated program listings, see the District's website at www.jcprd.com.
