|New Fairground Hoe Down event promises fun for 50 Plus on Sept. 5|
The Johnson County Fairgrounds are the place for good food, entertainment, and company during a new special event being presented in early September by the 50 Plus Department of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.
The event is called the Fairground Hoe Down and will take place beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 5, at the Johnson County Fairgrounds, 136 E. Washington St., Gardner.
Participants will start the night off with warm chili and tasty cornbread. Also planned is bingo with prizes donated by local businesses, followed by music and square dancing. If you're not a square dancer, don't worry as we'll show you some moves. Doors open at 5 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6 p.m.
To find this event in the Johnson County Park & Recreation District’s Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under 50 plus and then under special events. In the catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keywords “social event.”
The cost for one three-hour event, including dinner and entertainment, is $5 per person in advance or $7 at the door. To get the lower price, RSVP no later than Monday, Sept. 1, by calling (913) 826-2859.
While the JCPRD’s 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend. Persons 18 and older who are interested in a 50 Plus class are invited to call the District’s Registration Department at (913) 831-3359, and if space is available without forfeiting the place of a person over 50, their registration can be taken.
The JCPRD’s Activities catalog is available for pickup at all Johnson County Library branches. For more information or to register, call (913) 831-3359. For updated program listings, see the District’s website at www.jcprd.com.
