Sunset Walk for 50 plus takes participants to Lawrence on July 25
POSTED: 07/03/2014

Head with us to Jayhawk country to walk the Kaw River Trail in late July during a program being offered in early April by the 50 Plus Department of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.

This program is called the Sunset Walk and will take place on Friday, July 25. The Kaw River Trail will give participants a chance to walk on a natural sandy trail with various length options from one to eight miles. Walkers should plan on walking at least one mile up the river to cross over and come back while enjoying a beautiful Kansas sunset.

To find this program in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under 50 Plus and then under nature & outdoors. In the catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keyword “walks.”

The Sunset Walk will take place on July 25. This outing will depart at 4:30 p.m. from Antioch Park, 6501 Antioch, Merriam, and is expected to require an easy level of exertion. The cost for this five-hour outing, including van transportation to the walk site, is $24 per person for Johnson County residents or $28 for nonresidents.

While the JCPRD’s 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend. Persons 18 and older who are interested in a 50 Plus class are invited to call the District’s Registration Department at (913) 831-3359, and if space is available without forfeiting the place of a person over 50, their registration can be taken.

The JCPRD’s Activities catalog, with information and a registration form, is available for pickup at all Johnson County Library branches. For more information or to register, call (913) 831-3359. To register online and for updated program listings, visit the District’s website at www.jcprd.com.
