Heritage park Duathlon & Triathlon Registrations Now Being Taken

Registration deadlines are approaching for the Heritage Park Duathlon and Triathlon , which will take place beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 18, in Heritage Park, 16050 Pflumm Road, Olathe.

The Heritage Park Triathlon consists of a one-third mile swim, followed by an 11.5-mile bike, and a three-mile run on a relatively flat course. The triathlon is open to all individuals ages 15 and over, with participants competing in five-year age groups from 15 years to 90 and above. Team categories include: men, women, coed, family, and corporate. Two- and three-person teams will again be accepted.

The duathlon portion of the event will involve the biking and running portions of the triathlon course. The duathlon will consist of a two-mile run, followed by a 11.5-mile bike, and a three-mile run. The duathlon is open only to individuals.

Each entrant will receive a T-shirt. Individual prizes will be awarded to the overall male and female winners. Age group and team awards will be given based on the total number of entrants. This year, special commemorative medals sponsored by Galyans will be given to all finishers.

Registration fees for either event are $37 for individuals and $75 for triathlon teams if postmarked by Wednesday, May 7. After this date, late fees will be assessed as follows: registrations postmarked between May 8 and 15 will be $47 for individuals and $85 for teams, and registrations turned in May 16 through race day are $57 and $100. The mail-in deadline for registrations is May 12. The online registration deadline is May 16.

The Heritage Park Triathlon and Duathlon is a special event of the Johnson County Park and Recreation District and is sponsored by Wheeler's Cycle & Fitness; Drs. Hawks, Besler & Rogers, Optometrists/Laser Vision Associates; Garry Gribble's Running Sports; Jack Boyers All Good Things Memorial Fund; and Tri-KC Triathlon Club. Proceeds from the triathlon and duathlon will benefit the Kansas City Blazers Competitive Swim Team.
