Annual Free Fishing Weekend in JCPRD parks is June 7 & 8
POSTED: 05/14/2014

The Johnson County Park & Recreation District has established the weekend of Saturday, June 7, and Sunday, June 8, as the 2014 annual Free Fishing Weekend in district parks. This will coincide with the state of Kansas' "Free Fishing Days" in State Parks. The Saturday portion of the event also coincides with the JCPRD's Day in the Park event at Shawnee Mission, and Kill Creek parks, as well as the first Overnight Fishing Opportunity of the year at Heritage Park.

To find this program in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under fun for all and then under special events. In the catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keyword “fishing.”

Fishing, boating, and archery permits will be waived on these days in the district parks where these activities are normally allowed as follows:

Antioch Park, 6501 Antioch, Merriam - Permits Waived: Fishing
Kill Creek Park, 11670 Homestead Lane, Olathe - Permits Waived: Fishing & Boating
Heritage Park, 16050 Pflumm Road, Olathe - Permits Waived: Fishing & Boating
Shawnee Mission Park, 7900 Renner Road, Shawnee/Lenexa - Permits Waived: Fishing, Boating & Archery
Streamway Parks, Various Access Points - Permits Waived: Fishing, Boating
Thomas S. Stoll Memorial Park, 12500 W. 119th St., Overland Park - Permits Waived: Fishing

Fishing permits have also been waived by the state of Kansas for this weekend, allowing fishing without a state license as well. Regular park hours for most parks for these days are 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Exceptions are Antioch Park, which closes at 10 p.m., and the Steamway and Stoll parks, which are open from dawn to dusk. This event is the only time each year license requirements are waived. For more information, call (913) 888-4713.
