|Traffic to be restricted during Olathe Medical Center Women's Triathlon on Sept. 8|
In order to make this a safe event for spectators and participants, Kill Creek Park will be closed to all vehicle traffic from 5 a.m. to noon on the morning of the triathlon. Athletes and spectators will be allowed to enter for parking from 5 to 7 a.m. or until parking within the park fills. Some parking will also be available along the road near the park. No county roads are closed for this event, but because the biking portion of the triathlon takes place on surrounding roads, drivers in that area should be especially careful during the triathlon. The area will also be patrolled by the Johnson County Park Police and Johnson County Sheriff's departments.
Started in 2008, the Olathe Medical Center Women's Triathlon is the first all-women's triathlon sanctioned by the United States of America Triathlon Committee in the state of Kansas, and is a special event of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District. It was recognized in 2009 as the Kansas Recreation and Park Association's Outstanding New Program. The 2012 event filled to capacity of 450 in mid-July.
