POSTED: 06/28/2012

Parkville is the next destination of walking program being offered by the 50 Plus Department of the Johnson County Park and Recreation District which combining two great things about summer, nice weather and the abundance of goodies at local farmer's markets.

The program is called Saturday Walk and Shop and will take place on July 14. Participants will depart from Antioch Park, 6501 Antioch, Merriam, and travel to Parkville, where they will to a farmer’s market, visit the farmers, sample their goods, make a few purchases, and stroll around to see the sights. In case of inclement weather, the rain date is the following week. This walk is expected to require an easy level of exertion. The cost for one eight -hour outing, including transportation to the walk site and a morning snack, is $16 per person for Johnson County residents or $18 for nonresidents. Participants should bring a sack lunch for a picnic after the walk. The final Saturday Walk and Shop event is scheduled for Aug. 11, when the destination is Kansas City's River Market. To find this program in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under 50 Plus and then under nature & outdoors. In the catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keywords “weekend walks.”
