Making a Difference program for young teens and their parents begins June 19
POSTED: 05/25/2012

The program, Making a Difference, is for ages 11 to 14 with their parents. This program will address how HIV, other sexually transmitted diseases, or teen pregnancy could disrupt participants' life goals and teaches how to respond to peer pressure in a way that promotes self-pride and responsibility. Parents will learn about current trends/statistics, community resources, and how to effectively communicate with their children. Participants must be present for both evening sessions and a parent or guardian must attend the first class with their child for the first one to two hours of the program. Dinner will be provided free of charge at each session. To find this program in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under youth and then under fitness & health. In the catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keyword “wellness.”

Making a Difference consists of two four-hour sessions is free of charge. The program will take place beginning at 4:30 on Tuesday, June 19 and Thursday, June 21. Both sessions will take place at the Mill Creek Activity Center, 6518 Vista Dr., Shawnee.
