Twist, Coil & Roll & Fun Behind the Wheel youth pottery classes begin May 3
POSTED: 04/09/2014
Two clay classes for youth are being offered by the Johnson County Park & Recreation District beginning May 3.

The classes are: Twist, Coil, and Roll for ages six to 11 and Fun Behind the Wheel for ages 12 to 16 The cost per person per class for five 90-minute sessions is $75 for Johnson County residents or $83 for nonresidents. All materials, including clay, paints, and kiln firing, are included with the classes. Both programs take place at the Roeland Park Community Center, 4850 Rosewood Dr., Roeland Park. To find these programs in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under youth and then under fine & performing arts. In the catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keyword “art.”

In Twist, Coil, and Roll, children will spend Saturday mornings getting messy with clay. Students will learn basic hand-building techniques and get to take home a unique work of art. This program is offered at 9:30 a.m. Saturday beginning May 3. This class will not meet on May 24.

No permit is required for Fun Behind the Wheel. Participants can learn something new or improve existing skills as they make clay pots on the pottery wheel. This class will meet at noon Saturday, also beginning May 3.

The JCPRD's Activities catalog, with information and a registration form, is available for pickup at all Johnson County Library branches. For more information or to register, call (913) 831-3359. To register online and for updated program listings, see the district's website at
