New Thrill Seekers' Day of Thrills event set for April 5 at TimberRidge Adventure Center
POSTED: 03/19/2014

The TimberRidge Adventure has everything a thrill seeker is looking for: a climbing wall, archery, a zip line, canoeing, hiking, fishing, and more. Take advantage of a new special event being planned at this facility in early April by the 50 Plus Department of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.

The event is called the Thrill Seekers' Day of Thrills and is an extension of the department's Thrill Seekers offerings first launched last fall. Past thrill seekers programs have offered hot-air ballooning, skydiving, whitewater kayaking, and scuba diving, each as a separate outing. This new event brings variety of exciting activities together for a single day's outing. The Day of Thrills promises an exciting day for all 50 plus skill and thrill levels. Unlimited spots are available throughout the event for canoeing, hiking, and fishing (note that state fishing license and JCPRD permit requirements apply for this catch-and-release-only fishing opportunity). A more limited number of spots are available for the 300-foot zip line in the morning and wall climbing at the Hawk's Nest Climbing Tower in the afternoon. Lunch is included, as are chances to win some great door prizes being offered by local businesses.

For more information about Thrill Seekers, contact 50 Plus Coordinator Jenny Smith at (913) 826-2859. To find these programs in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under 50 plus and then under special events. In the printed catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keyword “adventure.”

Thrill Seekers' Day of Thrills will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the TimberRidge Adventure Center, located at 12300 S. Homestead Lane, Olathe. The cost for this five hour event is $83 per person.

While the JCPRD’s 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend. Persons 18 and older who are interested in a 50 Plus class are invited to call the District’s Registration Department at (913) 831-3359, and if space is available without forfeiting the place of a person over 50, their registration can be taken.

The JCPRD Activities catalog, with information and a registration form, is available for pickup at all Johnson County Library branches. To register, call (913) 831-3359. To register online and for updated program listings, visit the district’s website at www.jcprd.com.
