|50 Plus day trip to visit Planes, Trains, and Steamboats on March 18|
All aboard the bus for a day trip adventure themed around different modes of transportation which is being offered in mid-March by the 50 Plus Department of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.
The Planes, Trains, and Steamboats trip will take place on Tuesday, March 18. Participants will travel to the City Market, where they will tour the Steamboat Arabia Museum. Unearthed from the Missouri River in 1988, the steamboat serves as an important time capsule of the 1850's. See exhibits of cargo found in pristine shape after 132 years and meet the people involved in preserving this amazing piece of history. Next travel to the Freight House, a historic railroad building just north of Union Station, to enjoy lunch at Lidia's Italian Restaurant. Then journey to the Roasterie, a specialty coffee-roasting company. Tour the factory and learn about the air roasting, blending, and cupping processes. Visit the Bean Hangar and learn the significance of the DC-3 aircraft atop the building.
