|Three home school arts-related classes offered in mid-January|
The classes are: Pottery Clay Creations, and Pottery Wheel Throwing, and Paper Mache a New Way! These classes are meant to expand and supplement home schooling efforts. Perform a catalog search for the keywords "home school art" to find these programs in the JCPRD's Activities Catalog and online listings.
Pottery Clay Creations is for ages six through 10. Students will squish, pinch, pull, and pat clay into fanciful forms. Creations will be painted and fired. This class will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday beginning Jan. 12. Pottery Wheel throwing is for ages 10 through 14. Participants will learn basic wheel-throwing on an electric pottery wheel. This class will meet at 11 a.m. Thursday, also beginning Jan. 12. Both of these classes will take place at the Roeland Park Community Center, 4850 Rosewood, Roeland Park. Fees for either of these pottery classes include clay, lead-free paint, and kiln firing, and four 90-minute lessons and are $55 per person for Johnson County residents or $61 per person for nonresidents.
Paper Mache a New Way is for ages eight to 14. Participants can create a colorful dish or a mask while learning this art. Be sure to wear old clothes and be ready to think outside the box. This class will take on Friday place at 9 .m. beginning Jan. 20 at the Prairie Village Community Center, 7720 Mission Road, Prairie Village. The cost for four 90-minute sessions is $35 per person for Johnson County Residents or $39 for nonresidents. Call (913) 826-3163 for a supply list.
