Billy Thomas Winter Break Basketball Camp is Dec. 27-30 at Okun Fieldhouse

Billy Thomas Winter Break Basketball Camp is for boys and girls in grades kindergarten through eight and will take place Dec. 27-30 at at two JCPRD locations: Okun Fieldhouse in the Mid-America West Sports Complex, 20200 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, and at the New Century Fieldhouse, 551 New Century Parkway, near Gardner.

Camp Director Billy Thomas was a professional basketball player from 1998 to 2010 and most recently played as a shooting guard with the Maine Red Claws of the NBA Development League. As a former player at the University of Kansas, he set a KU record of 269 three-point field goals. He has played for a number of other teams including the Washington Wizards in 2006 and the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2008.

Billy Thomas Winter Break Basketball Camp is designed to provide basic skills, including shooting, dribbling, ball handling, defense, and scrimmage games in a positive learning environment. All participants should bring their own ball, dress in gym clothes, and wear tennis shoes. Participants will receive a camp T-shirt. Camp sessions will take place Tuesday, Dec. 27 through Friday, Dec. 30. Basketball Camp for participants in kindergarten through third grade will meet at 11 a.m. at New Century and at 3:30 p.m. at Okun. The cost for four 90-minute sessions is $50 for Johnson County residents or $55 for nonresidents. Basketball Camp for participants in fourth through eighth grade will meet at 9 a.m. at New Century and at 1:30 p.m. at Okun. The cost for four two-hour sessions is $65 for Johnson County residents or $72 for nonresidents.
